Travel basketball
For Stow youth recreation players interested in playing more basketball, a travel program was created in 2009.  Partnering with the Bolton and Lancaster recreation leagues, Nashoba travel teams play in the central MA youth basketball league - CMYBL.  Nashoba boys and girls teams grade 5 – 8 are selected after a tryout process during the pre-season.

The travel program is funded and run by Recreation departments in the Nashoba school district.

Important notes
SYBA recreation players, along with Bolton and Lancaster recreation players, have the opportunity to try-out for a Nashoba travel team. In an effort to have consistent policies with all towns participating in the Recreation League, all travel players are required to play in the recreation league in order to be eligible for inclusion on a travel team.  Travel basketball is a competitive environment for the more serious and committed recreation basketball players to practice and play additional games.  Playing time is not guaranteed and some kids will experience “cuts” from a team for the 1st time.

Travel basketball plays games on Sunday afternoons in the Central MA league.

Due to constraints on gym time and space, travel basketball practices once a week at a school in the Nashoba district.
The travel program relies heavily on the recreation program to provide players the additional “basketball time” they need to compete in this environment.

Players who make a travel team are not guaranteed playing time.  Efforts are made to play as many players as possible, but there is a greater emphasis on winning as opposed to equal playing time in the recreation league.  Therefore, playing time will vary from game to game based on the situations.
